LOVE GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART
Love God with All Your Heart
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
— Proverbs 3:5 (NASB 2025)
Loving God with all your heart means putting your deepest affections and desires under His rule. The heart is the control center of your will. God doesn’t want a portion of your loyalty—He wants it all. Trust is the clearest evidence of love. Choosing His wisdom over your own, even when it's hard, proves that He has your heart.
Faith In Action
In 1956, missionary Jim Elliot and four others were killed by the very tribe they were trying to reach in Ecuador. Years later, Jim’s widow, Elisabeth Elliot, returned to live among those same people and eventually saw them come to Christ. In her journal, she wrote: “God is God. Because He is God, He is worthy of my trust and obedience. I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will.”
The Bottom Line
Elisabeth’s love and trust in God after such loss showed what it means to love Him with all your heart. Trust is not a feeling—it’s a decision to give Him your whole self, no matter the cost.
Something To Think About
Could you have done what Elisabeth Elliot did? Could you have gone to live among those that had killed your husband, then worked and prayed that God would bring salvation to them and their families? Why or why not?
Where are you still leaning on your own understanding instead of trusting God with your whole heart—and what would trusting Him look like in that area?
What do you need to do today to move towards trusting God fully in the area you just identified?
