YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD

But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.
— John 1:12 (ESV)

When you believe in Jesus and choose to follow Him, something powerful and life changing happens. God forgives your sins and then adopts you into His family. That means the Creator of the universe becomes your Father and you are His child. This shift in your identity changes everything.

Faith In Action
After World War 2, much of Europe was broken. Cities were destroyed, homes were lost, and many families had been torn apart. Thousands of children were left with no parents, no homes, and no one to care for them. They wandered the streets, hid in buildings, and tried to survive on their own.

Groups like the Red Cross and the United Nations worked hard to help. They rescued children who had been lost or abandoned. Many of these children were taken to safe places where they could rest, eat, and begin to heal. Some were later adopted by families in America and other countries. These stories were not always written down, but they were real. Children who had nothing were given a home and a future.

Imagine the following story: A young boy was found hiding in the corner of a basement. The walls were cracked, the roof was falling in, and he had been there for days. He was cold, dirty, and very quiet. A soldier walking through the area spotted him, knelt down, and gently picked him up. The boy didn’t fight. He was too tired. The soldier wrapped him in a coat and said, “You are safe now. I’ve got you.”

The boy was taken to a shelter where he was cleaned up and given food and clothes. He slept in a warm bed that night. But even though he was safe, he still looked afraid. He had been through so much that he didn’t know who to trust.

A few days later, the same soldier came back. He sat next to the boy and said, “I want to take you home. I want you to be my son.”

The boy looked up slowly, unsure if he had heard right. “Really?” he asked. “I can be yours?”

The soldier smiled and said, “Yes. You can be mine.”

From that day forward, everything changed for that boy. He stopped running. He stopped hiding. He began to heal. He knew he was not alone anymore. He had a father. He had a family. He had a place where he truly belonged.

The Bottom Line
God has done the same thing for you, that the man did for the boy in our story. When you choose to follow Christ, you were given a new identity. You are now a son or a daughter. You now have a new name, a new home, and a new future.

If you have a good and healthy relationship with your father, I want you to imagine how different that relationship was as a child than all the other relationships in your life. If you do not have a good and healthy relationship with your father, I want you to imagine how you wish it would have been different.

An honorable father makes you feel loved, wanted, safe, and so much more. You don’t have to earn this; it is provided for you simply because you belong to him. You are his child. This is what father’s do and how they show up for their children.

Something To Think About
Are there ways you still think and act like a spiritual orphan?

When you pray, do you come to God as a child coming to their Father—or as a stranger hoping to be noticed?

What would change in your thoughts, habits, or relationships if you fully believed you were deeply loved and fully accepted by God?
